Olympic torch bearer and volunteer

Excitement growing for the last 7 years!

I have always been an Olympic fan, ever since I can remember. My first goldfish at the age of 6yrs old were called Carl Lewis and Daley Thompson! So the excitement has been growing for me over the last 7 years when we first found out the Olymnpics were to be held in London in 2012. When the news about volunteers was announced, I had signed up and completed my application form within the first 20 minutes of the website going live.

After a long wait I finally got the news I was waiting for: I was a successful Gamesmaker for the 2012 Olympics. I am going to be in ticketing services based at the Olympic park with access to all venues. I will be showing people to their seats, sorting out any seating problems and making sure everyone with a ticket has a seat. I have recently picked up my uniform and I can’t wait to start wearing it.

I have also been very lucky as I am to be an Olympic torch bearer when the Olympic flame comes to St Albans on Sunday July 8th. I was nominated by one of the children at Colney Heath Primary School where I teach. This is a total dream come true and I can’t even begin to imagine what the experience will be like! I have a total mixture of emotions even thinking about the honour, let alone what I’m going to be like on the actual day. I feel very proud, privileged and excited by the whole affair.

I like to read…

As I was growing up my favourite book was The Very Hungry Caterpillar , according to my Mum I loved counting the different pieces of food! Though I do have to confess that when I was growing up, sport was a big interest for me and reading wasn’t.

When I first became a teacher, I stumbled upon Something Else by Kathryn Cave, illustrated by Chris Riddell. This book was amazing as it looked at fitting in and how everyone is special. The class I was teaching at the time really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. As an adult I have to confess to being totally hooked on the Harry Potter books, I love the feeling of escapism it gives me! I can be reading for hours and not even notice the time!
