Mrs. Matthews from Redbourn is seen here with her daughter Fanny and William Barnes. Fanny’s sister Jessie was the Headmistress of Redbourn Infants School, and was engaged to William Barnes, who sadly lost his life during the First World War. Jessie was never to marry. The Matthews family lived at 34 Harpenden Lane, Redbourn.
