William Hewitt, South Common, Redbourn, waits outside the Russell Harborough home at the bottom of the High Street. Note how the wheels have been wrapped in sacks. This was done to deaden the sound of the wheels in respect for a death or funeral at a residence which the cart regularly passed. Photo c.1910
