  • I think this photo is a bit earlier than the c1925 dating given.
    I say this because the sign to the right of the door says “T. W. Kent & Sons”, who owned the Chequers until 1918, when they sold their brewery on Holywell Hill (St. Albans) and their 8 pubs to Adey & White, who would have almost certainly immediately replaced the signs with their own.
