A comic football match was played in The Silkmill Meadow at the rear of East Common, Redbourn, to celebrate the occasion.

The players in fancy dress are (left to right): Henry ‘Strofton’ Smith, ?, ?, Percy Crouch, Maurice ‘Butt’ Webb, Bill Palmer, ? and Joe Elsom. Bert Halsey, dressed as ‘The Mad Vicar’ (notorious at that time), refereed the game.
