The Satellite: St Albans Punk & New Wave ’76 – ’81 was an exhibition focusing on the explosion of creativity following the appearance of The Sex Pistols at St Albans College of Art & Design in 1975.
This project was provided by St Albans City and District Council and managed by the Arts Team at St Albans Arts, Sport & Health (SAASH) – the development arm of Leisure Connection. The exhibition showcased an eclectic mix of memorabilia, music and memories from the local bands and celebrities, covering an abundantly inventive period in St Albans social history!
Budding young film makers joined the Museum and Arts Team, and guided by The Adders Youth Film Group had the opportunity to use digital video cameras and editing software, as well as directing the piece. With gigs filmed at the Museum of St Albans, The Horn Reborn and The Pioneer Youth Club, they produced a 30 minute documentary featuring performances from local bands and interviews with musicians.
