Thursday 19 June 1958

Joan did not wait for me this morning. Had to write a composition on Hatfield House. Had argument with Susan P but soon made up. Daddy and Mummy went to print battle in Enfield. Mr Best came to tea. At 3 o’clock had a film on the Norwegian Fiords.

Saturday 28 June 1958

Jane took washing to Bendix. Daddy painted ceiling of front room. Mummy bought Jane a pair of shoes. She bought me a pair of nylon socks and herself and Jane a pair of stockings. Cleaned out Omo and gave her a bath. She stayed in very still and she loved it. Watched Tommy Steele show on TV. Went to bed about 9.30 pm.

Saturday 6 June 1959

Went to Bendix and saw Carol J. After dinner we went to Kew Gardens. Rained at about 4.30 pm. Read my book. At the 11th hour, Jane did some Maths revision.

Sunday 7 June 1959

Cleaned out animals. Joan, Jane and I went for cycle ride just past Northaw. Mum and Dad went for a car ride. Mum had her first passenger. Mr Hertbert came. Played tennis with Jane. I had a bath.

Tuesday 21 June 1960

Had Religions Knowledge, Biology and Science and History exams. Another hot day. Did not get Bunty as I am now having School Friend. Drew on map of the British Isles with its counties to show where we are going in the summer. Dad went for cycle ride.

Friday 8 June 1962

The newspapers say that the temperature was 68 at lunch and 73 at 4 o’clock. We are not allowed on the field. Plastered sun cream on but still got burnt. We all took our stockings off. After a while I couldn’t put my shoes back on. Nana and Grandad came up and said that they had a terrible journey. Grandad bought me a tizer as I was in a good mood.
