In like a Lyon, Hoos Field Bowl

In like a Lyon

My mobile is based on the last entries in the weather diary of Sir John Wittewronge in March 1889. He describes March as “coming in like a Lyon” and goes on to detail a wide range of weather conditions through the month – sleet, snow, hail, wind, white frost, black frost, mizzle, mist, tempestuous nights and clear fair days.

Hoos Field bowl

The shape of my bowl is based on Hoos Field, one of the original fields at Rothamsted, where Sir John Bennet Lawes carried out trials to test different manure formulas. The decoration is inspired by the attractiveness of aerial photos of modern day field trials that I came across in the Rothamsted Research Annual Report.
