Lucy Kemp-Welch (1869-1958) was an artist, best known for her paintings of horses. She lived at Kingsley, a 16th Century house in Bushey for most of her life.
Her picture Gypsy Drovers Taking Horses to a Fair was exhibited at the Royal Academy when she was still a student at the Herkomer Art School.
She took over the management of the school in 1905, and ran it until 1926, first as the Bushey School of Painting, and later as the Kemp-Welch School, when she moved it to her own house.
A major collection of her work is held at Bushey Museum and Art Gallery.
