Rose at 7. After Breakfast I allowed my fawn to have a run in the inner court and was very pleased to see that she followed me wherever I went, at which I was very pleased.* In the afternoon Miss Smart and I went to Watford to get my Lark, which I expected by the coach, but it had not come, but it arrived afterwards about ½ past 6.

* The inner court of Cassiobury House, also known as the Fountain Court, was a rectangular courtyard surrounded by the main rooms of the house. The courtyard had a fountain and gardens and was open to the sky.

Rose at 6. After Breakfast played with my fawn. She follows me every where. In the afternoon we walked to Barkers and I told him the good news of my young Birds and we stayed there and had a cup of tea and then came home.

Thursday 15th July 1841
Rose at ½ past 6. After Breakfast went to play with my fawn, of which I am very fond and she also returns my affection. In the afternoon the weather was so bad that we did not stir out, so I brought Fairy into the Study, where she spent the afternoon and was very pleased, not letting me stir without she came, and crying if I left her.
