Before the days of cheap package holidays abroad, the most common holiday destinations from Hertfordshire were the Essex coastal resorts. Southend and Clacton were the biggest, but my family spent many holidays at the smaller resort of Walton-on-the-Naze.

Yes, the thing I remember about Frinton was that no busses were allowed in the town centre. We didn’t go there much, though we occasionally went to the theatre in Frinton, which was run by Jack Watling.
I regularly holidayed with my family in that region during the 50’s, sometimes walking along the seafront from Holland on Sea to Walton on the Naze – people had legs then.A bit nearer WW2, on one occasion diggers were all over the sea-front still removing land mines.I still remember Frinton on Sea being terribly genteel and prohibiting virtually everything. You could have heard a pin drop in Woolworths there.
