My parents were living in Moor Park, Herts, near to Coastal Command in Northwood, the Germans were targeting this and dropped bombs in a line from the south, one in a sports field of St Martins’s school. It was thought that an au pair girl in the area was signalling to the bombers. One night when my father, Eric Alexander, was out on warden patrol with a neighbour, Sinclair Green. They spotted a red light flashing in the trees and quickly dropped onto their fronts. After a few minutes the light turned green and they realised it was the signal on the Metropolitan railway, demonstrates how nervous everyone was.
