My childhood

Doreen Howell

I was 2 years old when the war began and 8 when it finished. At that time everyone could go about their business , such as going to school and work, different to our present time. I was fortunate that my school was just down the road to where I lived that was in Kingsbury north London , I wasn’t evacuated as I lived outside London.

Everyone looked out for each other as more people are doing right now .

We all tried to carry on with life as much as usual which I am trying to do right now.

I remember when Winston Churchill announced on the radio that the war was over my mother dancing me around the kitchen singing.

We WILL get through this.
